Short version: Local Dictate captures system audio and transcribes it on your Mac. We do not collect your audio or transcripts. Polar processes purchases and licenses. The app contacts Polar for license validation and serggiu.dev for updates when you ask it to.
What stays on your Mac
- System audio captured while using Local Dictate.
- Transcripts, translations and dictionary entries.
- Downloaded speech and translation models.
- Your license key and activation ID, stored in the macOS Keychain.
These are not uploaded to us. Local Dictate does not include analytics, advertising SDKs or a transcription account.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar collects the information needed to process the order, calculate tax, issue a receipt and deliver the license key, such as your name, email address, billing address and payment details. We do not receive your full card details.
Polar's own privacy policy applies to the information it collects. We receive order and license information needed to provide support, handle refunds and understand aggregate sales.
License activation and validation
When you activate or validate Local Dictate, the app sends the following to Polar's customer-portal license API:
- your license key,
- our public Polar organization ID and license benefit ID,
- the activation ID returned by Polar,
- an installation identifier and a device label such as your Mac's name,
- app version and macOS version.
This is used to enforce the license and its five-device activation limit. It does not include audio or transcript content. If you are offline, validation is skipped and a grace period applies.
Updates
Local Dictate uses Sparkle for updates. When you check for updates, Sparkle requests the public appcast and, if an update is available, the update archive from serggiu.dev. Like most web requests, our hosting provider may log the IP address, user agent and requested URL for security and reliability. The app does not send audio or transcripts with update checks.
This website
This is a static website. It does not use advertising cookies, analytics scripts or third-party tracking pixels. Our hosting provider may keep standard access logs for security, abuse prevention and reliability.
Support email
If you email support@serggiu.dev, we receive your email address, message and any information you choose to include. Please do not send your license key unless support asks for it. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to help you and meet legal obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, or to request a copy of it. Contact us at support@serggiu.dev. For purchase data, you may also need to contact Polar. You can complain to your local data-protection authority.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app or the store changes. The date at the top will change and, for material changes, we will make the update clear on this page.
